Tampa City serves as the county seat of Hillsborough County. In 2008, the city received a citation from Forbes as the 5th best outdoor city. Its humid subtropical climate has set an environment for over 165 parks and beaches and a number of attractions. The sunny side of this West Coast’s community as well as the sparkling coastline of St, Petersburg has made these places a hot spot among the other world destinations.
Golf vacation packages are also available in Tampa and St. Petersburg as the golf industry prides itself in this paradise setting.
Some of the golf destinations in Tampa / St. Petersburg include the TPC of Tampa Bay, Westchase Golf Club, Juliette Falls, Northdale Golf & Tennis Club, Plantation Inn and Golf Resort, Bardmoor Golf & Tennis Club, Bloomingdale Golfers Club, Club Renaissance, Lexington Oaks, and the Plantation Palms Golf Club.
This 18-hole, par 71 golf facility was designed by Bobby Weed with Chi Chi Rodriguez as the player consultant. TPC of Tampa Bay is routed around the cypress heads, natural wetlands and can be played from 5,036 yards from the forward tees to 6,898 yards from the championship tees. TPC Tampa Bay is one of the two courses in the Bay area designated as an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary.
Westchase Golf Club is among the popular Tampa golf courses that is a must visit facility. The entire par 72, 6,710-yard layout that winds through wooden bridges, bulkheads, and natural wetlands was designed by architect Lloyd Clifton. Golf Digest also cited the course as “one of the most beautiful public-access course in the Tampa area.” This 18-hole golf layout is the perfect place to harness those swings.
This brand new golf club that stretches over 7,200 yards from the course’s championship tees was designed by John Sanford. The layout of Juliette Falls features collection of four waterfalls and man-made ponds surrounding the greens. Significant elevation changes can reach over 40 feet across the 120 acres of PGA level challenging the best of golfers. There is an additional five sets of tees for those who have just started to master golf.
This Ron Garl layout design was cut out from the natural terrain of over 180 acres of land. It features the 6,800 yards of play from the tips with four sets of tees and only two parallel fairways. The tree-lined fairways and the undulating medium-sized greens challenge both the mid and high handicaps. The water hazards of Northdale Golf come into the eleven holes but not enough to challenge the experienced golfer.
Plantation Inn and Golf Resort is an exclusive resort in Central Florida that features 27 competitive and challenging golf holes designed by architect Mark Mahannah. The fairways lined by matured emerald pine and oak trees with the 21 water hazards on the course’s 27 holes is a great test even to the advanced golfers. Mix matching of the three nines can also be an option.
In 2001, PGA Tour winner Gary Koch has completed the renovations of the Bardmoor Golf Club course. The entire layout features the 7,015 yards of plays from the tips for a par 72 with an additional four sets of tees. A number of outstanding holes include the #5 which is the shortest with 115 yards from the forward tees and 174 from the back tees. The longest is the 13th for par 3 with 136 yards from the front tees and 225 yards from the back.
Bloomingdale Golfers Club is among the most difficult courses with a par 72, 7,155 yards from the “tiger tees”. However, Golf Digest has cited Bloomingdale as having the best collection of par 5s on one golf course. The 9th is a great finish to the front nine that is about 546 yards from the tips. Another spectacular feature is the 514 yard dogleg left on the 14th. The course also offers excellent practice facilities.
The 18-hole Club Renaissance facility features the par 72, 6,701 yards of golf from the longest tees. The course was designed by Chip Powell which opened in 2002. The layout features two beautifully manicured distinctive nines where the front nine has the feel of the wide fairways and greens while the back nine meanders through a large conservation area. Water hazards come into play on many holes.
Lexington Oaks is an 18-hole layout with 6,748 yards of play designed the Naples-based architect Gordon Lewis. The entire layout adds up exciting features that include multitude of lakes, wetlands and the unique blend of holes that resulted from varying landscape. This upscale and semi-private facility is being offered at affordable rates and promises a great golf experience.
Designer David Harman has created a masterpiece through the Plantation Palms Golf Club course that offers challenging and rewarding golf experiences. Every golfer starts with the welcoming par-5 and that will slowly leads to the strong mixture of par-3s. The layout has many elevation changes with the pine trees providing a frame for the wide greens. The snow-white sand traps and true-rolling elevated greens challenge even the experienced golfer.
